The CCS Competency Model for Chaplaincy
Thank you for your interest in our work. This page will be the future home for the full research, methodology, and data behind the CCS Chaplaincy Competency Framework. The detailed findings from our study are currently being prepared for peer-reviewed publication. To create this unified, evidence-based standard for the profession, our multi-phase research project involved the following key steps:
Synthesis of Existing Standards: We analyzed and integrated competency standards from numerous leading professional chaplaincy organizations (including APC, ACPE, SCA, and NACC) to see if we could find a common framework that could map onto established professional wisdom.
A Unified Framework: The result was a comprehensive set of competencies, creating a clear and actionable tool for chaplaincy education and professional development. We hope that it will be useful for schools and training programs looking to align their curriculum with evidence-based standards, develop innovative training models, and better assess their programs to meet the outcomes-based requirements for contemporary chaplaincy formation.
National Validation Survey: We then assessed the framework through a national survey of hundreds of practicing chaplains, who rated each competency on its importance and frequency of use in their daily work.
We look forward to sharing our full research and findings here upon publication.
